TroGlass & TroWood veneer Mother’s Day bouquet

Follow the steps below to create a decorative Mother’s Day bouquet made out of Trotec’s TroGlass and TroWood veneer products. Feel free to explore other material options to make this year’s gift one-of-a-kind.

Required Materials:

Machine used:  Speedy 360 flexx, 80 watts, 2" lens, vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table resp. acrylic grid

Step 1: Import base plate design

Import our template and adapt it to fit your preferences. Send the base plate job (meant to hold the TroGlass Metallic ring) to the laser using the driver settings below:

Print Settings:

Process ModeResolutionCut lineHalftoneOthers
Standard 1000 dpi none Color Enhanced Geometries,
Inner geometries first

Step 2: Cutting the base plate

Place the sheet of TroGlass Clear onto the acrylic cutting grid in your laser machine. Using a 2.5" lens, cut the base using the following settings:

Laser Parameters: Cutting
Color: red; Process: Cut  CO2; Power (%): 95; Speed (%) : 0.2; ppi/Hz: 20.000; Passes: 1; Air Assist: on; Z-Offset: -3 mm; Advanced: -

Step 3: Design grass

Send the grass design over to the laser using the settings below:

Print Settings:

Process ModeResolutionCut lineHalftoneOthers
Standard 500 dpi none Color Enhanced Geometries

Step 4: Laser process grass

The grass pieces will be created out of the TroGlass Color Gloss green transparent material. Place the sheet of green acrylic onto the acrylic cutting grid. Be sure to use the 2" lens for this and the remainder of this project. Engrave and cut the design using the following parameters:

Laser Parameters: Engraving
Color: black; Process: Engrave CO2; Power (%): 14; Speed (%): 20; ppi/Hz: 500; Passes: 1; Air Assist: on; Z-Offset: -; Advanced: High Quality

Laser Parameters: Cutting
Color: red; Process: Cut CO2; Power (%): 100; Speed (%): 1; ppi/Hz: 1000; Passes: 1; Air Assist: on; Z-Offset: -; Advanced: -

Tip:

Start the engraving process from the bottom so that
the dust cannot settle on the engraved area.

Step 5: Design stalks

Send the job for the stem piece, which is made out of TroWood, to the laser using the driver settings below:

Print Settings:

Process ModeResolutionCut lineHalftoneOthers
Standard 1000 dpi none - Enhanced Geometries

Step 6: Cutting stalks

Place the sheet of laserable solid walnut wood onto the honeycomb cutting table. Be sure to cover the remainder of the laser bed to maximize the vacuum feature with paper or laser tape products. Cut the material using the following settings:

Laser Parameters: Cutting
Color: red; Process: Cut CO2; Power (%): 100; Speed (%) : 1; ppi/Hz: 1000; Passes: 1; Air Assist: on; Z-Offset: -; Advanced: -

Step 7: Design blossoms

Finally, send the abstract blossoms design over to your laser. This design will be created out of Trotec’s engravable maple veneer.

Print Settings:

Process ModeResolutionCut lineHalftoneOthers
Standard 1000 dpi none - Enhanced Geometries,
Inner Geometries first

Step 8: Laser process blossoms

Place the sheet of maple veneer onto the bed of your laser. Be sure to cover the remainder of the table with paper or laser tape products. Using the following parameters, laser cut the blossoms:

Laser Parameters cutting
Color: red; Process: Cut CO2; Power (%): 100; Speed (%) : 1.2; ppi/Hz: 1000; Passes: 1; Air Assist: on; Z-Offset: -; Advanced: -

Tip:

If using the entire sheet of material, focus the laser
on the middle of the sheet of material. This will help
to compensate for any possible thickness differences.

Assembly

Place the stick of the stem into the base and decorate it with blossoms. Using your own creativity, decorate the stem with a combination of large and small blossoms. Finally, position the grass into the base.

Tip:
Twisting the blades of grass can bring another level of intricacy and detail to this piece. To accomplish this, position the blades of grass into a bench vise or another heat-resistant holder. Using a hot air gun, carefully heat the grass pieces. Once heated, use plyers or other gripping tools to twist and deform the hot acrylic. Be sure to wear gloves during this process.

Why Trotec materials?

Trotec’s TroGlass series offers the best conditions to produce unusual, eye-catching applications. Available in various color and surface options, this material is optimally suited for laser processing due to its formable, UV-stable and hard-wearing properties. In addition, this material has the ability to come off the laser with a flame polished edge instantly – no post processing required!

Combine the TroGlass materials with Trotec’s TroWood products to finish the application with a more natural look and feel. Also perfectly suited for laser processing, TroWood features a homogeneous structure for consistent, repeatable results.
